Some of the Inhabitants of the Catacombs

This is the last body placed in the catacombs. Her name is Rosalia Lombardo and she died in about 1920 when she was about 2 years old. She was embalmed by a Professor Alfredo Salfia. The method he used is not known, other than it consisted only of injected chemicals. Dr. Salfia died without ever disclosing how it was done.
This is Brother Silvestro of Gubbio, the first body placed in the catacombs. He was interred in 1599. This is a picture of the Women's hall.
These are some of the priests. Notice they are wearing Priest Clothing.

Thus is the body of Giovanni Paterniti, American Vice Consul, who died in 1911. This is the plaque over the body of Giovanni Paterniti.
